Business community optimistic about Peruvian economy: report

Xinhua, July 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Peruvian business community expressed optimism about the country's economic outlook, according to a new report released by the country's central bank on Monday.

The report came out on the same day President-elect Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced that the current central bank governor Julio Velarde would stay in office under his government.

According to the report, the businessmen interviewed were optimistic on 16 out of 19 economic indicators, especially in terms of rising demand, job creation, revenue for companies and productivity.

The interviews, carried out in the second half of June, covered 357 important Peruvian companies.

The results also showed that those interviewed expected Peru's economy to grow 4 percent in 2017 and 4.5 percent in 2018.

The news that Velarde will stay in office seems to have raised confidence further as people believe Peru's monetary and fiscal policies will remain the same. Endi
