The following are news highlights in major South African media outlets on Saturday.

-- Civilian deaths at the hands of police are in the spotlight in South Africa, not just in the U.S. where widespread protests took place this week.

In one year, there were 396 deaths as a result of South African police action and 244 deaths in custody, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate said in its annual report for 2014-15.(Business Day)

-- Bilateral trade between South Africa and India is expected to reach a target of 18 billion U.S. dollars by 2018, according to President Jacob Zuma.

Delivering an address at the South Africa-India Business Forum held in Pretoria Friday, Zuma said the two countries hold huge trade and investment potential that should be "unleashed". (Fin24)
