Colombia's Atletico Nacional edge toward Copa Libertadores final

Xinhua, July 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Colombia under-23 international forward Miguel Borja scored twice in the last 10 minutes to earn Atletico Nacional a 2-0 away victory in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores semifinal against Sao Paulo on Thursday.

After a dour first half at Morumbi stadium, Sao Paulo had the better of the opportunities early in the second before defender Maicon was shown a red card for violent conduct.

His exit changed the course of the match and within minutes Borja put the visitors ahead after being set up by Macnelly Torres.

Borja, who is expected to feature in Colombia's squad at next month's Olympic Games in Rio, made it 2-0 six minutes later with a powerful finish after Marlos Moreno's assist.

The return match will be played at Atletico's Estadio Girardot in Medellin next Wednesday.

The winner over two legs will face the victor of the other semifinal between Boca Juniors (Argentina) and Independiente del Valle (Ecuador) in the final of South America's top club competition. Endit
