Myanmar state counselor chooses armless student as honor-worthy woman of June

Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has chosen a young armless female student as the honor-worthy woman of the month of June, official media reported Thursday.

Naw Dar Khu, daughter of a military serviceman, was born with the affliction of having no arms.

Despite lacking both hands, the honored exemplary citizen of June exerted her utmost to learn to write with her legs, passing the promotion examinations yearly up to Grade-9, but had to make a second attempt to finish Grade-10 due to poor health.

Despite challenges of disability, poverty, poor health and inability to attend private tuition classes, Naw Dar Khu sat for and passed the matriculation examination this year when the country saw a fail rate of 70 percent with the examination.

The state counselor chose her for the honor for her exemplary efforts in achieving her personal goals.

Aung San Suu Kyi is presenting letters of appreciation to outstanding or exemplary citizens regularly every month. Endit
