Spain's industrial production increases by 4 pct in May

Spain's industrial production rose by 4.0 percent in May when compared with the same month in 2015, according to the Index of Industrial Production (IPI) published on Wednesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The figure is lower than that of April when the country's industrial production rose by 8.9 percent. It has been rising for two consecutive months on a year-on-year basis.

Production of consumer goods went up by 4.0 percent in May on a year-on-year basis with production of durable consumer goods going up by 6.6 percent and that of non-durable consumer goods increasing by 4.8 percent.

Production of capital goods rose by 9.4 percent, the INE said, reporting that production of intermediate goods and those related to energy rose by 3.3 percent and fell by 2.5 percent respectively.

The country's industrial production had fallen by 1.6 percent in March year-on-year after rising by 5.4 percent and 0.5 percent in February and January respectively.

Last year, it grew by 3.2 percent on average, increasing for the second time in a row as in 2014 it had grown by 1.5 percent on average for the first time since 2007, when the financial crisis started. Endit
