Ukraine to deliver 40 T-84 Oplot-M tanks to Thailand

Xinhua, July 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ukraine confirmed on Wednesday Thailand's backlog order for a number of T-84 Oplot-M tanks will be delivered within next March.

Ukraine ambassador to Bangkok Andriy Beshta gave his assurances during a meeting with Thai Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan that delivery of 40 Oplot-M main battle tanks will be made after long delays primarily caused by armed conflicts inside Ukraine.

Defense Ministry spokesman Yangcheep Tantravanit quoted the Ukrainian envoy as saying the situation in the eastern European country has gradually improved to the extent that all the 40 tanks will be shipped to the Southeast Asian country.

Only 10 Oplot-M tanks have been delivered to Thailand over the last few years with the 40 others yet to be delivered.

The Thai army has said to have earmarked some 250 million U.S. dollars for planned procurement of main battle tanks.

The deputy premier earlier commented that as many as 100 tanks might probably be procured by the army with payments to be made in a course of several years. Endit
