Torres signs one year deal with Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid confirmed on Monday that they have agreed a one year contract with striker Fernando Torres.

The 23-year-old has spent the last 18 months one loan at the club where he began his playing career on loan from AC Milan after he failed to settle after a move from Chelsea.

A strong finish to the season, which saw him net 10 goals in the last 20 games of the campaign to help Atletico finish third in the BBVA Primera Liga and reach the Champions League final, was vital to Torres earning his new deal following the expiry of his contract with Milan at the end of June.

"I am delighted to continue at what I consider to be my home, the only place I have ever wanted to be and it has finally become reality."

"I am very happy to be here, I never had any doubts about where I wanted to be. It was a long process and we didn't know what was going to happen in the end, but the most important is that we have achieved what we were waiting for," said the striker on the Atletico website.

Torres scored his 100th goal for Atletico last season and is currently the second highest scorer in the club's history with 109 goals. Enditem
