Dortmund confirm Mkhitaryan' s departure

Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaves Dortmund to join Premier League side Manchester United, the eight-time German champions announced in an official statement on Saturday.

After "intensive negotiations" , the 27-year-old midfielder was able to agree with Dortmund on parting company ahead of schedule despite a running contract until June 2017.

"Manchester United submitted an exceptional offer. If we had refused it, the player would have been able to leave on a free transfer in 2017. In addition, we would have postponed the personnel issue for one year," Dortmund' s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said.

According to German media, Borussia Dortmund snapped up a transfer fee of 42 million euros, which would the highest in the club' s history.

However, Mkhitaryan is the third key player, after captain Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich) and midfielder Ilkay Guendogan (Manchester City), who left the "BVB" in the summer transfer window.

The Armenian international provided overall 23 goals and 35 assists in 90 Bundesliga outings since his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk in July 2013. Endit
