1st LD Writethru: Israeli war jets strike Gaza in response to rocket firing

Xinhua, July 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israeli war jets hit several targets in the Gaza Strip Saturday predawn in response to earlier rocket firing from Hamas, eyewitnesses said.

Several explosions were heard in northern, central and southern Gaza after Israeli warplanes fired air-to-ground missiles on targets belonging to military groups, the witnesses and security officials said.

No injuries were reported, paramedics said, adding rescue teams and fire-fighters have arrived at the targeted places, including Hamas military training posts and other armed groups.

According to residents in southern Gaza City, Israeli warplanes attacked a goldsmith workshop, from where arose columns of smoke.

The security officials said that most of the security, police and military posts, training camps and other facilities were evacuated shortly before the air-strikes.

They said that four separate air-strikes were carried out on the Gaza Strip, including one on the goldsmith workshop and three others targeting military facilities in the southern and northern parts of the Strip.

The air-strikes took place a few hours after unknown militants fired a rocket from Gaza into southern Israel, according to Israel Radio. Damage was caused to an Israeli house, but no injuries were reported. Endi
