Pakistan, India exchange lists of prisoners

Xinhua, July 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Pakistan and India on Friday exchanged the lists of nationals of each country lodged in the jails of the other country consistent with the provisions of the Agreement on Consular Access between India and Pakistan.

The Foreign Ministry in Islamabad said Pakistan handed over a list of 518 Indian prisoners (55 civil and 463 fishermen) in Pakistan to the High Commission of India in Islamabad.

This step is consistent with the provisions of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India, signed on 21 May 2008, under which both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other's custody twice a year, on 1 January and 1 July, respectively, a statement said.

Pakistan and India also exchange lists of nuclear installations under a bilateral agreement that bars them from attacking each other's atomic facilities on January 1 every year. Endit
