Tokyo shares close slightly higher by break on stimulus expectation

Tokyo shares ended slightly higher Friday morning with market confidence lifted after Bank of England chief Mark Carney hinted at further monetary easing to boost Britain's economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 103.93 points, or 0.67 percent, from Thursday to 15,679.85.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.33 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,254.15.

Gainers were led by fishery, agriculture, forestry and chemicals as well as precision instrument issues. Endit
