House owners still missing after deadly blast near Toronto

Xinhua, July 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Canadian police in Mississauga, Ontario, said Thursday two residents of a house that was leveled in a Tuesday explosion have not yet been located.

The cause of the explosion, which killed one woman, injured nine others and damaged two dozen homes, has not been determined, local police said.

Peel Regional Police Sgt. Josh Colley told a news conference that police have not been able to make contact with two people, Robert Nadler and Diane Page, who were listed as owners of the house destroyed in the powerful explosion.

Tuesday's explosion happened on Hickory Drive, a street with mostly single-family homes, located about 30 minutes west of Toronto.

Police also denied reports that the investigation has been taken over by local police homicide department.

One female was pronounced dead at the scene following the blast but police said they have not yet been able to identify the victim.

"The autopsy for that deceased party is scheduled for today and we are working with the coroner's office to determine her identity and then from there we can notify next of kin," Colley told reporters.

He added that crews have been unable to access the blast site to search through the rubble and acknowledged that it was possible Nadler's body would be found in the debris.

Fire investigators didn't rule out the possibility that more victims could be found.

Investigators will also review the hand-written suicidal notes found scattered around the blast site that could be related to the explosion. Endit
