Xinhua, July 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Austrian foreign trade deficit has increased to 1.99 billion euros (2.2 billion U.S. dollars) in 2015, marking a noticeable pickup in the trading of goods with other countries.

The new figures from Statistics Austria released on Thursday revealed that exports increased 2.7 percent to 131.54 billion euros, edged out slightly by imports that increased 2.8 percent to reach 133.53 billion euros.

In 2014 the deficit was recorded at 1.74 billion euros.

The statistics office stated that the trade deficit with fellow EU countries shrank, from 4.3 billion euros to 3.2 billion euros, though the trade surplus with countries outside the bloc also shrank from about 2.6 billion euros to 1.2 billion euros.

The most important trade sector for the Austrian economy for the year of 2015 was once again machines and vehicles, making up 39.8 percent of exports and 34.1 percent of imports. (1 euro = 1.11 U.S. dollars) Enditem
