Egypt dissatisfied with Italy's decision to halt warplane spare parts' supplies

Egypt on Thursday expressed its dissatisfaction with Italy's decision to halt its supplies of warplane spare parts to Egypt, state-run MENA news agency reported.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the decision, taken by the Italian Senate on Wednesday following the death of Italian student Giulio Regeni in Cairo earlier this year, does not mirror the extent of cooperation between the two countries' investigating authorities, MENA reported.

The ministry stressed that Egypt will follow up on the incident's developments in order to take the most appropriate steps that serve both countries' interests.

The murder of Italian researcher Regeni, whose tortured, half-naked body was found on a roadside in Cairo nine days following his disappearance on Jan. 25, exposed Cairo to harsh Western criticism.

Regeni's mysterious death has cast a shadow on the erstwhile good relations between the two countries. Endit
