New rules to hold Party officials accountable for breach of duty

The leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday adopted a regulation on Party officials' duty of care.
Party officials must be held responsible for serious consequences caused by their negligence or poor work performance, which undermines the Party's governance and harms the people's interests, according to a statement issued after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, presided over by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.
The new regulation introduced an internal Party accountability mechanism, which can be applied across all levels and divisions, the statement said.
It also covers officials in leading or supervisory roles, the statement said.
The Party requires its leading officials to be faithful, clean and responsible, it said.
The key to realizing the "Chinese dream of national rejuvenation" is that CPC organizations at all levels, and leading Party officials, should perform their duties for the Party and the public, the statement said.
The leadership ordered Party departments to ensure that the regulation is effectively implemented, calling on superiors to lead by example and never compromise.
In particular, the Party will hold officials accountable for failing to implement Party guidelines and policies as well as reform measures, to make sure the orders of the CPC Central Committee are passed through the ranks and carried out, the statement said. Endi
