Xinhua, June 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Vietnam is considering postponement of the country's new Penal Code, which is scheduled to take effect from July 1, 2016, due to errors.

After discussing at an unusual meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) on Monday, heads of NA delegations have received ballots on postponement of the Penal Code, reported Vietnam's state-run radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) on Tuesday.

Accordingly, as many as 90 contents with"errors" have been detected in the new Penal Code, which was adopted at the 10th session of the 13th NA in November 2015, said VOV.

Ballots regarding postponement of the Penal Code are set to be cast before 03:00 p.m. local time (0800 GMT) on Wednesday.

If major votes are"for,"the Penal Code will be postponed till Jan. 1, 2017. As such, the current Penal Code is set to continue to take effect, said VOV. Enditem
