Czech gov't to provide financial aid for Syria's reconstruction

Xinhua, June 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

PRAGUE, June 27 (Xinhua) - Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said on Monday that the Czech government decided to provide a total of 195 million crowns (7.96 million U.S.dollars) to Syria as humanitarian and development aid and for reconstruction works by 2019.

The aid is designated for the whole territory of Syria, including the besieged towns. The aid will mainly support education and the renovation of healthcare, school, social facilities and other infrastructure needed for economic and social development, said the prime minister on twitter.

It will also be used for projects in which local NGOs, business and academic entities will participate in the cooperation with Syrian and international organisations and for sending experts, organising trainings and providing scholarships for studies in Czech public universities.

The Czech Foreign Ministry said although the Czech Republic has been providing Syria money as humanitarian aid, these means are far from sufficient. For this reason, it has proposed the release of more money to alleviate the consequences of year-long conflict and to moderate the migrant wave. Endit
