Tokyo shares open higher after retreating over Brexit

Tokyo shares opened higher Monday as market players bought in stocks that had plunged after Britain voted to leave the European Union in a referendum last week.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 142.74 points, or 0.95 percent, from Friday to 15,094.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 10.59 points, or 0.88 percent, to 1,215.07.

Gainers were led by pharmaceutical, food and fishery, agriculture and forestry issues. Endit
