(recast) Six stabbed at neo-Nazi rally near California state capital

Six people were reportedly wounded on Sunday outside the state capital Sacramento, California.

Reports from Sacramento, some 140 kilometers north of San Francisco, said violence broke out between members of a white supremacist and neo-Nazi group and counter-protesters against the group's rally outside the capital building.

In a Twitter posting, Sacramento Fire Department said it was a "mass casualty incident."

The neo-Nazi group, known as the Traditionalist Workers Party, stated earlier that members of its California affiliate would be "marching in the city of Sacramento to protest against globalization and in defense of the right to free expression." It was scheduled to begin at noon.

Witnesses said more people were there as counter-protesters against the group. The violence apparently started before the rally began.

Officials later confirmed about an hour later that six people were stabbed, five in critical conditions, but none of their wounds were life-threatening.

Despite social media postings identifying some of those being helped on the scene as counter-protesters, there have been no official words about the identities of the wounded. Endit
