Xinhua, June 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Malaysian authorities rescued 22 people, including 12 Chinese tourists on Friday who were stranded at sea overnight in Malaysia's Sabah state on North Borneo.

Authorities said the catamaran carrying the 22 people were broken and started taking in water in bad weather after leaving the Mantanani Island, a popular swimming and snorkeling spot Thursday afternoon.

A search and rescue operation was started and the officials managed to contact those on board, before finding their ship early morning on Friday, according to the state news agency Bernama.

All were in good condition and were sent to hospitals for check.

The Consular-General's office in Kota Kinabalu, the state capital, confirmed to Xinhua that there were 12 Chinese tourists on board and all were safely rescued. Enditem
