Vietnam's capital Hanoi stock market plunged on Friday following the result of Britain's Brexit referendum.

On Friday this week, the HNX-Index, the benchmark of the Hanoi Stock Exchange, closed at 83.62 points, down 1.71 points or 2 percent against the previous trading session.

Earlier in the morning trading session, the HNX-Index even reported a loss of 3.2 percent to end the morning session at 82.6 points. It later gained back modestly in the afternoon session.

On Friday morning, the Leave camp has won Britain's Brexit referendum by obtaining nearly 52 percent of ballots, pulling the country out of the 28-nation European Union (EU) after its 43-year membership.

Investors' low confidence over the result has led to the decrease of the Hanoi stock market on Friday.

The Hanoi bourse saw a strong increase in market liquidity on Friday. Trading volume and value on Hanoi bourse on Friday doubled Thursday's figures.

A total of nearly 110.594 million shares worth over 1.322 trillion Vietnamese dong (some 59.29 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday, an increase of 115.45 percent in volume and 111.9 percent in value against the previous trading session.

Compared to last Friday's close, the HNX-Index this week decreased by 0.3 points or 0.36 percent on Friday.

During the week, the HNX-Index experienced one down on Friday and four ups early this week, posting the lowest level of 83.62 points on Friday and highest level of 85.33 points on Thursday.

In comparison, in the previous trading week, the benchmark ranged between 83.92 points and 84.35 points.

During this week, a total of nearly 320.220 million shares worth over 4.171 trillion Vietnamese dong (around 187.056 million U.S. dollars) were traded on the Hanoi bourse.

As of Friday, the benchmark climbed 3.66 points, or 4.58 percent compared with the last trading session in 2015.

From Monday to Friday, foreign investors bought over 8.333 million shares and sold nearly 11.421 million shares.
