Botswana, SA to clash in Cosafa Cup finals

Xinhua, June 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Swaziland were knocked out of the 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup Wednesday by South Africa, while Botswana edged out the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The stage for the final is now set for Botswana and South Africa on Saturday.

South Africa had an easy task of bundling out Swaziland after scoring five goals to one in a semifinal played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Although Swaziland took an early lead by scoring in the first half and then put up a barrier to cushion the goal, they could not hold on in the second half when their defender Siyabonga Mdluli was expelled for a second yellow card.

A deluge of goals came for South Africa after Thabiso Kutumela converted the free kick awarded after Mdluli's misdemeanor.

Soon after, Lebogang Phiri took South Africa ahead before Menzi Masuku got one of his two goals with Judas Moseamedi signing off the score card.

Swaziland's lone goal came from Tony Tsabedze.

The DRC-Botswana match ended in penalty shootouts after a nil-all draw at full-time. Botswana managed to convert all the five shots while the DRC missed one when keeper Mwampelo Masule blocked Guy Basisila's shot. Enditem
