Brazil striker Gabriel nets brace as Santos beat Fluminense

Xinhua, June 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Teenage Brazil striker Gabriel struck a brace as Santos defeated Fluminense 4-2 in the Brazilian Serie A championship on Wednesday.

Santos forward Rodrigao cancelled out Marcos Junior's opener before Gabriel hit the target either side of half-time.

Marcos Junior scored again for Fluminense but Luiz Felipe guaranteed victory for Santos by netting his team's fourth goal in the 73rd minute.

The result at Kleber Andrade stadium in Espirito Santo lifted Santos to fifth while Fluminense dropped to 13th in the 20-team standings.

In Belo Horizonte, former Brazil forward Fred was on the scoresheet as Atletico Mineiro beat Brazil's defending top-flight champions Corinthians 2-1. Juan Cazares also scored for the hosts while Lucca netted late for Corinthians.

In Recife, an early Willian Arao strike was enough to give Flamengo a 1-0 victory over Santa Cruz.

In Wednesday's other matches, Cruzeiro routed Ponte Preta 4-0 and Figueirense drew 0-0 at Botafogo. Enditem
