Russian athletes to file joint lawsuit with CAS

Xinhua, June 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian athletes will lodge a collective lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to compete in the 2016 Olympics Games in Brazil, Russian chief coach of the national team Yuri Borzakovsky said on Tuesday.

"A decision will be taken soon that Russian athletes will file a collective lawsuit with the CAS to defend their right to compete in the Rio Olympics," the Russian news agency TASS quoted Yuri Borzakovsky as saying.

The chief coach stressed that the athletes of the national team meet all necessary criteria for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games.

"All members of our team who are getting prepared for Rio comply with the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) criteria. They are clean," he said.

Yuri Borzakovsky hopes the CAS will pass a positive decision concerning clean Russian athletes.

The International Association of Athletics Federations upheld a ban June 17 on the Russia's track and field athletes for Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Enditem
