Alaves, Bordalas part ways despite promotion to top-flight

Xinhua, June 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Recently promoted Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday confirmed that Jose Bordalas will not continue as the first team coach next season despite leading the club to promotion to the BBVA Primera Liga.

Alaves, from the Basque city of Vitoria, returned to the Spanish top-flight as winners of the Spanish Second Sivisioin (Liga Adelante) after a 12-year absence from the Primera Liga in Bordalas' first season in charge.

However, despite that success, the club has decided not to retain him as first team coach and on Tuesday night posted a communique on their website which stated that the "Board of Directors wants to thank Bordalas for his work and dedication in a really successful season in which Deportivo Alaves was able to win promotion to the top category of Spanish football after a fabulous season."

"The club wishes him the best of luck at his new destination," ends the Alaves website. Endit
