One day before the Euro 2016 group stage being concluded, European soccer governing body UEFA clarified the group standings and permutations on Tuesday.
According to the latest press release, if two or more teams finish leveling on points, the results of their direct encounters count first (first total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored).
If they are still leveling, the overall goal difference across all group matches is counted. If still level, then the number of goals scored. Then disciplinary records (red, yellow cards).
Third-placed teams are first ranked according to points obtained, then goal differences, then goals scored, then disciplinary records.
Four best third-placed teams progress to the Round of 16, following the winners and runners-up of the six groups.
The Round of 16 pairings will only be fully confirmed once all group stage matches have been played. Endit
