Namibian athletes, journalist up for continental awards

The African Union Sports Council Region 5 has nominated three Namibian athletes and a journalist for their awards that will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Saturday.

The council is the sports arm of the African Union whose main aim is to use sports to achieve peace, integration and unity in Africa.

This is the first time the sports council that is made up of 10 states is awarding sport people and journalists.

Those shortlisted from Namibia are the Paralympic runner Johanna Benson and Ruben Soroseb, and cyclist Tristan de Lange, while the journalist is Sheefeni Nicodemus who works for The Namibian newspaper.

Both Benson and Soroseb are in the sportspersons of the year and De Lange is in the junior sportsman category. Nicodemus is running for the journalist of the year award. Endit
