Cambodia, Thailand vow to link by train by year-end

Xinhua, June 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cambodia and Thailand have vowed to connect the capital cities of the two countries by train by the end of this year, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement came after Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn wrapped up his visit to Thailand on Monday, where he met with his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai and paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

"Both sides had discussed and agreed to promote connectivity between Cambodia and Thailand by land, railway, air and sea," it said, adding that both sides "will try their best to launch transport by railway from Bangkok to Phnom Penh at the end of 2016."

According to the statement, the two sides also reiterated their commitment to triple the bilateral trade volume to 15 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.

"To achieve this target, both sides agreed to promote trade exchange along the border, increase the number of cross-border cargo trucks, and facilitate export procedures," it said. Enditem
