A Sino-Bulgarian conference on "Socialism of the 21st Century" was held here on Monday, bringing together more than 60 experts from universities and think tanks from the two countries.

Deng Chundong, director of the Academy of Marxism at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said at the opening ceremony that the more than 30 Chinese experts have come to participate in the one-day event, wanted to intensify the exchange of views on this topic, and help Bulgarians better understand China.

At the same time, Chinese participants hoped to gain insight about the changes in Bulgaria, Deng said.

In turn, Valeri Jablianov, a member of the executive bureau of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, said he hoped that the discussions during the conference would approximate the European ideas of socialism to the development of socialism in Asia.

"Then we will be able to have those bridges between us, spiritual, ideological and political, which can grow into something else in the future," said Jablianov. Endit
