Bahrain revokes citizenship of top Shiite cleric

Bahrain announced on Monday that it had revoked the citizenship of the country's most powerful Shiite cleric.

The Interior Ministry said it revoked the nationality of Shaikh Isa Qassim, the leader the opposition group Al Wefaq National Islamic Society.

The ministry said the decision was taken as part of measures to fight extremism. Endit
