Gun battle kills 9 militants in N. Afghanistan

At least nine Taliban militants have been killed as clash erupted in the northern Kunduz province on Sunday, an army official in the northern region said Monday.

"Five militants including a group commander Qari Salim have been killed in Chardara district and four more rebels were killed in the neighboring Darqad district," General Abdul Hamid Hamid told Xinhua.

Three more militants have been injured and a number of arms and ammunition were destroyed during the operations, the official added.

Taliban militants who have intensified activities over the past couple of months and have been fighting the government forces in several provinces are yet to make comment. Enditem
