Thousands of people thronged main bus terminals in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka to buy advance Eid tickets, sale of which officially kicked off in the city on Monday morning, amid huge demand from homebound passengers.

The Muslim majority country will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on or around July 6 based on sightability of new moon.

Thousands of people including women were seen to queue up for hours on Monday morning in Dhaka's largest Gabtoli bus terminal for tickets to return home for celebrating Eid with their family members. Many of the ticket aspirants said they had joined the queues even on Sunday night.

Advance train tickets for Eid travel will go on sale from June 22.

Bangladesh Railway officials said special trains will be introduced on different routes with additional coaches to meet the increased demand of the homebound passengers ahead of the three-day Eid festival.

Most of the Bangladeshi capital dwellers usually prefer to observe the biggest religious festival in their village homes. Endit
