Xinhua, June 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Some five people were injured in a bomb attack on a politician in western Kabul on Monday morning, the latest in a string of targeted attacks against officials, police said.

"A sticky bomb attached to the vehicle of Ataullah Faizani, a member of Kabul provincial council, was detonated in the morning, causing five people injured," a police official told Xinhua anonymously.

The attack took place when the stricken car was running along a road in Bagh-e-Raees locality of Chihilsoton area at around 08:30 a.m. local time.

Faizani received minor inquiries as he was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, the source said, adding "The injured were shifted to nearby hospital where two of the wounded remained in critical condition."

The blast was the second bomb attack in Kabul within a day. About 14 Nepalese security guards were killed and nine people injured after a Taliban suicide bomber struck a minibus in eastern Kabul earlier on Monday morning.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since early April when the militant group launched its annual rebel offensive in different places of the country.

The civilians considered to be supporting government, civilian government employees, religious leaders, tribal elders and persons involved in peace and reconciliation efforts came under attack in targeted killings.

On June 5, a roadside bombing killed Shir Wali Wardak, an Afghan lawmaker, and wounded 11 others near Wardak's house in western part of Kabul. Enditem
