Yu salvages 1-1 draw for Evergrande with late goal

Xinhua, June 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Second-half substitution Yu Hanchao grabbed a late goal to salvage a 1-1 draw for defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande against Yanbian Fude here on Saturday in the Chinese Super League.

Yanbian broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Steve Trawally scored from close range after a pass from Ha Tae-Goon.

The home team almost doubled their lead before halftime but Yoon Bit-Garam's corner-kick hit the cross-bar.

Evergrande piled up pressure in the second half and created several chances in the early stage. Alan Douglas Borges de Carvalho came close to equalizing in the 57th minute but his volley shot was denied by Yanbian goalkeeper.

Just as Guangzhou looked set for their second defeat in this season, Yu fired home from outside the box in the 87th minute.

"We had desires to win but missed at least three scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes," said Evergrande coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

"We are not lucky enough, so I have to accept the result," added the Brazilian. Endit
