Czech Republic and Croatia tie 2-2 in Euro 2016 (updated)

Xinhua, June 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Goals from Milan Skoda and Tomas Necid saved Czech Republic to draw 2-2 with Croatia in Euro 2016 Group D here on Friday.

Croatia's Ivan Perisic opened the scoring with a low drilled finish into the far corner after collecting a long pass from Milan Badelj in 37th minute, and his teammate Ivan Rakitic, played in Barcelona, extended the lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute.

Czech Republic didn't give up and strengthened the attack. Substitute Skoda pulled a goal back for the Czechs in the 75th minute with a header.

With Croatia 2-1 up, referee briefly halted the game when flares thrown by Croatian fans. When the match restarted, Necid equalized by a penalty resulting from Domagoj Vida's handball.

"I must say the pause due to their fans helped us," said Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech.

"They were in control at that time and they suddenly lost rhythm and we could capitalise on that. We regained composure and although they had some counter-attacks (before the pause), from that moment on they didn't have anything."Petr Cech added.

The draw gave Croatia four points in Group D. They beat Turkey 1-0 last Sunday.

Czech Republic only got one point as they lost to Spain on Monday. Endit
