Zambia's power utility to start getting 150MW electricity from thermal plant

Xinhua, June 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambia's power utility will start receiving 150 megawatt (MW) of electricity from a new thermal power plant by the end of this month, a company official said on Thursday.

The evacuation of electricity into the national grid will be done in two phases with another 150 megawatts of electricity expected to follow in July, according to national broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, which cited Zesco Limited managing director Victor Mundende.

The official, who was speaking during a tour of the thermal plant, said the move will reduce power cuts that have hit the country since June last year due to reduced water levels in its hydro reservoirs.

The 800 million U.S. dollars thermal plant is situated in southern Zambia's Sinazongwe district. Endit
