Maradona demands overhaul of Argentinean football association

Former football star Diego Maradona on Wednesday called for the complete overhaul of the Argentinean Football Association (AFA).

The 1986 World Cup Champion held a brief meeting with Primo Carvaro, an observer from FIFA, who is in Argentina to study the institutional crisis blighting the AFA.

"We talked about a complete overhaul of the AFA, which would be very good," said Maradona at a press conference after the meeting.

He added that "some people in the organization that can be trusted and could create a new, transparent AFA ... but some executives would have to retire."

Maradona also said he would be keen to collaborate with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, with whom he met on June 10.

The AFA has been the victim of a power struggle since the death of its president, Julio Grondona, in 2014, while also being embroiled in the FIFA corruption scandal.

Furthermore, the Argentinean government is investigating the AFA for allegedly embezzling millions of U.S. dollars, given as part of the Football for All program. Endit
