Gunmen kill 1 in Burundi's capital

Xinhua, June 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Unidentified gunmen Sunday night shot dead a woman at Musaga in the south of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, the police spokesman told Xinhua on Monday.

"A woman named Anita Nibigira was shot dead by armed people who broke out in her house at the 3rd avenue at Musaga. After the murder, the armed people ran away," said Burundian Police Spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye.

He said the assassination may be linked with the imprisonment of the victim's husband, without giving more details.

Musaga is one of the neighborhoods in the Burundian capital Bujumbura that faced a tough crisis following the east African country's year-long political crisis that broke out since April 2015 in the aftermath of the announcement by Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza that he would be seeking a third term.
