Second half substitute Denis Glushakov scored on the last minute to help Russia earn a precious 1-1 draw with a dominant England in its first Group B match of Euro 2016 at the Stade Velodrome here on Saturday.
Two minutes into the injury time, Russian captain Vasili Berezutski headed Igor Smolnikov's cross to the far post, where Glushakov stealed in on the line to make it home.
England had taken the lead in the 73rd minute when Eric Dier smashed the ball into the top corner from a free-kick just outside the box.
Another Tottenham Spurs player Dele Alli had earned the chance for England after he had fouled by Russia defender Georgy Schennikov.
England, whose best feat in the tournament was reaching the semifinals 20 year ago, will have to wait for their first opening game victory in European Championship history.
Roy Hodgson's side will take on Wales on June 16 while Russia next plays Slovakia. Endit
