Former Maldives vice president sentenced to 15 years in jail

Former Maldivian Vice President Ahmed Adheeb has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for detonating an explosive device on board the Presidential yacht, according to a Maldivian media report Friday.

The report said Adheeb was convicted late Thursday of attempting to kill President Abdulla Yameen by setting off a bomb on his speedboat last September.

Yameen had escaped unhurt, but the first lady sustained minor injuries.
