Jordan sets date for parliamentary elections

Xinhua, June 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan will hold its parliamentary elections on September 20, the state-run Petra news agency reported Thursday.

The last parliamentary elections in Jordan were held in 2013.

Head of the independent election commission, Khaled Kalaldeh, said on Thursday that the one day elections will be held to elect members of the Lower House.

In May, King Abdullah II of Jordan dissolved the Lower House and formed a new government thus paving the way for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Out of the total seat numbers, 15 are allocated for women.

Jordan's largest opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, has not yet decided whether it will participate in the upcoming elections. Endit
