Nationwide strike cripples normal lives across Nepal

Xinhua, June 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

General lives across the country have been crippled on Thursday due to a nationwide strike imposed by the CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand.

CPN Maoist launched a nationwide strike demanding the release of their cadres who were arrested by the state in course of past protest programs.

Vehicular movement has come to a standstill whereas educational institutions, private offices and markets have remained closed since early morning.

However, the strike has a little impact inside the Kathmandu valley as private vehicles have plied the roads and many shops have resumed their services.

The strike enforcers torched a taxi and vandalized a public micro bus in the capital for defying the strike.

According to the Metropolitan Police Range, nearly two dozen party cadres have been arrested from different parts of the city for forcing people to shut down their businesses. Police also nabbed two people with petrol bombs in Bhaktapur.

A large number of security personnel has been mobilized in the streets to prevent any untoward incident. Enditem
