Benfica in bid for Brazil U-23 midfielder

Xinhua, June 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Benfica have made a six million-euro bid to sign Fluminense and Brazil under-23 midfielder Gustavo Scarpa, according to media reports.

However Fluminense, who own 45% of Scarpa's economic rights, are said to be seeking an additional 1.5 million euros for the deal to go ahead.

The Portuguese outfit are expected to send an improved offer to Fluminense in the "coming days", ESPN Brasil said, citing sources involved in negotiations.

Scarpa has been a regular presence in the Rio outfit's first-team since last year and is expected to be named in Brazil's squad for the Olympic Games in August.

The 22-year-old has represented Brazil twice at under-23 level. Endit
