Militant group says it destroys Chevron oil well in Nigeria

The Niger Delta Avengers militant group on Wednesday said its fighters destroyed another oil well belonging to American multinational oil firm, Chevron, in Nigeria's southern city of Warri.

The group said in a statement that the oil well was destroyed at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The oil well was destroyed barely 48 hours after the Nigerian government appealed to the militant group to cease fire and embrace dialogue with the authorities.

The group said in an earlier statement that it was not set to dialogue with government representatives.

"We are not negotiating with any committee. If the Federal Government is discussing with any group, they're doing that on their own," the group said on its official twitter handle, reiterating its stance that the minimum demand to stop the attack on oil installations is autonomy of the oil producing region.

Neither Chevron nor Nigerian authorities had so far responded to the latest attack.

Oil minister Ibe Kachikwu on Monday said the Nigerian government was committed to hold talks with the militants due to the intensity of the attacks. Endit
