Singapore stocks close 0.5 pct higher

Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 14.29 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 2,862.38.

A total of 1.74 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.05 billion Singapore dollars (777.8 million U.S. dollars).

Gainers outnumbered decliners 251 to 159, while 499 others finished unchanged.

The STI index gained 16.81 points, or 0.59 percent, to close at 2,848.09 on Tuesday. Endit
