The World Bank on Tuesday lowered its forecast for the global growth in 2016 to 2.4 percent, saying that the world economy is facing stronger headwinds.

In its Global Economic Prospects Report released on Tuesday, the Washington-based institution expected the world economy to grow 2.4 percent in 2016, 0.5 percentage point lower than the bank's forecast in January. (US-World Bank-Global economy)

UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday condemned a deadly terrorist attack in Istanbul, Turkey, which killed 11 people, voicing his hope that "the perpetrators of this despicable terrorist attack will be identified and brought to justice."

Ban "extends his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a speedy recovery," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told a daily news briefing, reading a prepared statement. "The United Nations stands in solidarity with the people and government of Turkey at this difficult time." (UN-Turkey-Condemnation)

BRUSSELS -- The European Union (EU) announced it would start negotiations for EU-level aviation agreements with some of its key partners on Tuesday, saying the move was of great significance to boost the bloc's growth.

The 28 EU transport ministers authorized the European Commission, the bloc's executive body, to start negotiations for EU-level aviation agreements with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, said a statement issued by the commission after ministers' Tuesday meeting in Brussels. LA PAZ -- At least 17 people were killed and 18 injured in a road accident on a rural highway in southeastern Bolivia, the country's traffic police announced Tuesday.
