Atletico Madrid's Saul rules out summer move

Xinhua, June 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez gave his club a boost on Tuesday when he said he had no intention of abandoning the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Saul was vital as Atletico reached their second Champions League in three years and was unlucky to be one of the last two players to be cut from Vicente del Bosque' s Spain squad for the European Championships.

Although he has missed out on a trip to France, Saul' s form has caught the eye of other major European clubs. Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain are both thought to be interested in signing him this summer.

However, speaking to sports paper, Diario AS, Saul said he was not looking for a move.

"I' m very happy in Madrid, I am getting a game on a regular basis and I am happy," said Saul, who added, "Atletico is the club where I intend to stay."

He admitted he was disappointed to have missed out on the European Championships but the 21-year-old said "it was already a reward to be named in the preliminary squad."

"Now I have to work hard with Atletico because sooner or later my chance will come," he said.

Elsewhere Atletico' s French international striker Antoine Griezmann, also ruled out a departure this summer, saying that he has spoken to coach Diego Simeone, who had told him he would remain at the club in the wake of the disappointment of losing the Champions League final on penalties to Real Madrid.
