Luxemburgo's future at Chinese club Quanjian to be decided at midweek

Xinhua, June 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo's future at Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian will be decided at midweek, the Chinese second-tier club confirmed on Monday.

The former Brazil and Real Madrid manager signed last September with the big-spending team which aims to make it to the Chinese Super League next season, but the team has been underperforming this season and now sits at the remote ninth place in the 16-team standings after 11 rounds.

"It is not correct to say that Luxemburgo has been fired. The team and the coach are still working on it. The final decision will be made on Wednesday," said Shu Yuhui, chairman of Quanjian Natural Medical Group on Monday.

Shu vowed to continue his investment in the club, no matter the Brazilian manager stays or not.

Though Quanjian is only a Chinese second division club, its signings of former Brazil internationals Luis Fabiano, Jadson and rising star Geuvanio have put it under highlight this season. Luxemburgo has vowed to leave legacy to the Chinese club and Chinese soccer, but after his team failed to achieve a single win in the past seven rounds, his job is on the line. Endit
