Xinhua, June 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

A soldier was killed and two others sustained injuries Sunday in an army camp fire just outside the capital Colombo, according to local media.

Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, an army spokesman, said the fire started at an armoury and spread in the camp, resulting in multiple explosions and forcing police to evacuate nearby villagers.

He said personnel from air force and navy were sent to help dousing the fire apart from the Colombo Fire brigade.

The government has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to conduct an investigation into the fire.

The army is also expected to carry out a probe to determine the cause of the explosions. Endit
