30 injured in speedboat collision near Koh Samet Island in east Thailand

Xinhua, June 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

speedboat rammed into a vessel near Thailand's eastern tourist destination Koh Samet Island on Sunday morning, injuring the overall 30 people on board, Inn News reported.

The accident took place at around 2:30 a.m. local time when a speedboat ferrying tourists away from the popular tourism resort island after a concert. It collided with a freighter which was anchoring in the gulf off Rayong Province in east Thailand.

The collision threw several passengers into the sea in the dark. All of the passengers were injured and hospitalized.

A rescue team was sent to surround the area at dawn and plunge victims from the sea. All of them are safe now.

Initial investigation shows that the skipper couldn't see the vessel as it didn't switch on any light, leading to the collision. Endit
